Despite being established almost two centuries prior to the surge in skiing’s popularity, the village of Chamonix has unequivocally transformed into a primary ski destination. This cold-weather sports mecca holds a significant claim to fame as the host of the first Winter Olympics in 1924, and the majestic Mont Blanc, Europe’s tallest peak, stands prominently in the distance.

Renowned designer Sybille de Margerie, known for her work on the Mandarin Oriental in Paris and Cheval Blanc in Courchevel, played a pivotal role in crafting the ultra-stylish ambiance of Hotel Mont-Blanc in Chamonix, which opened its doors in 2013. The black-and-white marble lobby serves as a striking introduction to the property, seamlessly blending early 20th-century elegance with contemporary comfort.
The Taittinger family, owners of the famous Champagne house, are intimately involved in the hotel’s operations. With a longstanding connection to Chamonix as devoted visitors and homeowners, the youngest generation takes on roles as owners and managers, infusing the chic property with a warm, family-owned atmosphere.
Originally constructed a century ago to accommodate servants of aristocrats staying uphill at the Majestic Hotel (now converted into apartments), the Hotel Mont-Blanc retains many original details. These include the Belle Époque lobby fireplace and wrought iron staircase balustrades. The owners curated much of the property’s furniture, with custom-made pieces and hand-selected textiles. Notable features include intricately carved wooden headboards with Alhambra details in all bedrooms and plush teal velveteen curtains in the ground floor lounge.
The hotel’s 42 rooms and suites, though colorful, comfortable, and offering mountain views, are not overly spacious. Opting for a junior suite or a higher category room is recommended. One design aspect that may pose a challenge is the frosted, patterned glass wall separating the bathroom from the bedroom. Offering minimal privacy and featuring a glass design meant to evoke an ice cube, this element feels somewhat dated and contrasts with the overall stylish ambiance.
The property boasts an exceptional spa, a winter-heated outdoor pool, and the highly regarded Le Restaurant de l’Hotel Mont-Blanc.
These three magnificent chalets, all with open-plan design and double-height ceilings, together form a secluded hamlet. Offering the best of both worlds, they are located within a few minutes walk of the centre of Chamonix but are also just 300m from its ski slopes, providing access to the ski zone of Le Brévent-La Flégère. All have charming terraces with hot tubs, dining areas and stunning views.
