Six Senses Residences Courchevel

Courchevel stands as an enchanting European ski destination, providing entry to Les Trois Vallées (The Three Valleys), the largest interconnected ski area globally. Beyond the exhilarating skiing experience, the resort’s six linked villages cater to diverse interests. Courchevel features Michelin-starred restaurants, a specially designated children’s ski area, upscale boutiques, and, importantly, abundant snow. Thanks to the resort’s natural elevation and an extensive snowmaking system, exceptional powder conditions are almost assured.

While Courchevel, located in the Savoie region of the French Alps, may lack charm and shopping options, it compensates generously with ample snow and glamour. As part of the Trois Vallées, it has access to the world’s largest interconnected ski resort, encompassing 375 miles of well-maintained slopes and numerous off-piste runs. The resort’s high altitude guarantees consistent snow cover from mid-November to April. Celebrated for its opulent accommodations, Courchevel emerges as an ideal destination for seamlessly combining skiing with luxurious indulgence.

1. Cheval Blanc Courchevel

The premier establishment in Courchevel is the extravagant Cheval Blanc, a 34-room hotel owned by French businessman Bernard Arnault. This super-luxurious destination, with prices to match, makes no attempt at subtlety, evident from the prominent mirrored horse outside the lobby. However, the opulence and allure are executed seamlessly; rooms and suites boast a rich mix of sumptuous fabrics such as velvet, leather, and fur. All accommodations feature floor-to-ceiling windows and either a balcony or terrace. The walls are adorned in a similar eclectic fashion, with vibrant cuckoo clocks ticking alongside photographs commissioned by Karl Lagerfeld.

The top suite, utilized by Arnault during his stays, comes with its private elevator and four bedrooms, accommodating eight guests. For families seeking a bit of seclusion, there’s a three-bedroom chalet directly connected to the hotel.

Luxurious amenities include a Guerlain spa offering avant-ski or après-ski massages and a not-to-be-missed “emotion shower” with light effects and a view of the slopes. The hotel also houses two restaurants, one of which boasts three Michelin stars, a bar, an in-house ski service for equipment rentals, a fantastic kids club, and LVMH-owned shops. Outside the confines of the hotel, the pampering continues as staff diligently prepares guests’ ski equipment, including heated boots, and equips them with gourmet treats for a day on the slopes each morning.

8. Aman Le Mélézin

As chic as Les Airelles is timeless, Le Mélézin is a 31-room, Asian-inspired retreat located on the Bellecôte piste. It exudes a sleek, unobtrusive, and highly comfortable atmosphere. Demonstrating that the minimalist Aman aesthetic transcends tropical Asian settings, Aman founder Adrian Zecha, an avid skier at the location, transformed this four-story slope-side hotel into a part of the Aman portfolio, collaborating with American designer Ed Tuttle.

The bar, with its expansive windows overlooking the slopes, and an inner courtyard constructed of tinted clapboard, provide guests with a serene sanctuary. Common areas are adorned with 200-year-old oak beams, red-cedar wood, slate stones, silk chenille panels, leather and suede upholstery, and other exquisite materials. Asian influences are subtly woven into details such as cylindrical woven baskets for room service and an antique Chinese chair gracing a corner of the gym. The generously sized bedrooms feature spacious walk-in closets—a valuable asset for those with bulky skiwear. Some bathrooms even offer window-side hot tubs with mountain views. Rooms maintain a consistent aesthetic of light woods and a zen ambiance, with fireplaces adorning the Mélézin and La Vanoise suites. The hotel also boasts a two-floor spa complete with treatment rooms, a fitness studio, and indoor pools.

Situated right on the slopes, a few steps away from the Palace des Airelles, the Ormello Chalet is utterly unique thanks to its brutalist stone and sculpted wood architecture. Boasting nine spacious bedrooms, two of which have fireplaces, this is a chalet that will feel wonderfully warm and comforting on even the coldest winter night.  Dominating the chalet is a dramatic sitting room with soaring cathedral-like ceilings, a dining room and a private bar.  Dramatically glamorous and imbued with wonderful touches of the past, it mixes history and modernity with aplomb.  There is a cinema room and games room and every last detail has been thought of so guests of Chalet Ormello want for nothing. From the ski room, pop on your boots and ski straight from the property onto the dramatic valleys of Courchevel.  Capacity : 15 people

10. La Datcha: Private Chalet

The La Datcha Courchevel chalet has 10,000sqft located 1,850 metres above the sea, the resort’s highest location, where the privileged Rue des Chenus is just 60 metres away from the slopes.

The chalet provides comfortable accommodation for ten guests. With three floors, it has five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, wardrobe, and balcony.
To keep a true chalet environment, the designers used natural fabrics: linen and jacquard for the curtains; silk, jacquard satin, and batiste for the bedrooms; leather and canvas for the furniture.
